Happy Valentine’s Day!: Giveaway

14 Feb

This Contest is Closed

Although we think of Valentine’s Day today as associated with hearts, flowers and candy, most people are at least vaguely aware that the legendary St. Valentine was a martyr.  Historical records show he probably didn’t do anything particularly romantic.  In fact, there were at least two, and most likely three, martyrs named Valentine in the early Church that were remembered on St. Valentine’s Day.  That’s a whole lot of bloodshed and not a lot of sweet nothings for such a romantic holiday.  The true origins are actually a lot closer to how most of my friends think about the day to be honest.

Still, a celebration is a celebration and I’m not one to turn that down.  Since I don’t have a Valentine this year, I thought I’d see if any of you, good readers, would like to be my Valentine.  As is customary, I feel the need to court you and what better way than with presents?

Today, we’re giving away a small drawstring bag that reminds you “All you need is love.”  If you’re extra nice I might add some surprises in there before it gets sent out. 🙂

To win, leave a comment telling me why I should pick you to be my Valentine.  Using a random number generator, I’ll pick one of the comments to win on Friday, February 18th at noon PST and I’ll share the most creative Valentine’s comments.

Good luck and Happy Valentine’s Day!

Oooh! Oooh!! Pick me! (Because I’m special.)

You should pick me ’cause I love you so much I went with you to San Diego on a work night, got home at 1am, got up at 6am, and went to work. I wouldn’t do that for just anyone. 😉

I did have a great time though. I find I really like the Decembrists.

    Thanks for inviting me!

Pick me because I am one of the few who can truly appreciate the importance of a random number generator.

I just want to be picked, I won’t even take the gift!

Pick me! Because I am watching Star Wars(the original) and drinking wine and knitting(or attempting to, as best I can while drinking) this Valentine’s day. Plus I really like the bag!

You should pick me because I’m a complete stranger, and complete strangers are the best valentines! Yay!

You should pick me because I adore The Beatles (I even took a class in college called “The Beatles and Bob Dylan”–yes, it was a *real* class!!!)

But that’s not the best reason. You should pick me because I would give this amazing back to my friend, Mary, who is a bigger Beatles fanatic than me.

And right now I’m listening to Nickel Creek, and they’re kind of mellow/sad and it’s Valentine’s Day. Despite the fact I’m single, I had a pretty good day and watched a show about people with OCD.

I can’t think of any compelling reasons you should *REALLY* pick me…so maybe you should pick Allison instead. Complete strangers are pretty awesome.

You should pick me ’cause you don’t know me and if you do, you’ll gain a new friend 😉

No need to pick me, since you just sent me, what I’m sure is a fabulous package today! ;*

You should pick me because I’m your Mom and I said so!!
I could give it to your brother because he is doing a research paper on the Beatles. He could give your bag to the teacher as a bribe to get a better grade.
Love Mom ( remember I was in labor with you for 3 days of course you have been worth every agonizing moment)
