Not-So-Lazy Giveaway

This contest is closed!  Congratulations to our winners!

April may have been exaggerating when she said you need to submit a portfolio of art made with nothing but upcycled materials and acorns to live in my community, but she wasn’t kidding about the sheer amount of creativity to be found here. Between my painting roommate and my photographer roommate, my living room looks more like an art gallery than a living room.

The people here also have a nose for adventure that puts this explorer to shame. Take my friend Andy who blogs at Lazy Man Adventures.  I’m pretty sure that Andy never bothered to look up the word “lazy” in the dictionary.  His idea of a relaxing vacation involves skiing across the Sierra Nevada.  I know, right?  What a lazy bum.

Here you can see Andy geeking out over his new bike with fellow bike nerd Kate.  (April will notice that there are, as usual, dogs running underfoot.)  What is Andy’s next adventure with his fancy-pants new bike?  He’s biking from Prudhoe Bay in Alaska to Vancouver in British Columbia.  That’s 2,600 miles total.

Andy is able to embark on this “lazy” adventure in part because of a grant from Nature Bridge in memory of Matt Baxter.  Andy in turn, decided to give back by raising money for WildLink, a program that connects underserved youth with wilderness areas and empowers them to become environmental leaders in their communities.  You can learn more about WildLink expeditions at their website.

Inspired by Andy’s adventure I’ve decided to help him reach his fundraising goal by having a drawing here on Without-a-Map.

To enter, go to this page and make a donation to WildLink, .  In the section that says “In Honor Of” please put “Andy Esparza” in the name box and “Without-a-Map” in the email box.  (This will allow us to keep track of how much money we’ve raised.)  Then leave a comment on this post letting me know you’ve donated.  Once Andy has finished his adventure I will pick a winner by random number generator. Please make sure you include your email address in the comments so that I have a way to you if you win!

The prizes are artwork from the creative people I am lucky enough to surround myself with.

Two packages made up of an assortments of note cards from Derek Ferguson (the aforementioned “photographer roommate,”  prints of paintings by Mindy Wiper (the painting roommate,) block prints by Sarah Kay, and an upcycled coin purse made by Laura Nordaas and Stellar’s Jay earrings made by me.  (I reserve the right to add a few more items later, depending on how much of a response I get.)

I’m not going to set a minimum rate of how much of a donation you need to give to be entered in the contest.  If you can only afford five dollars, that’s great!  Andy will appreciate it.  If you can afford to give more you might consider pledging a certain amount per mile that Andy rides.  You can learn more about how to do that on his blog.

Thank you for your interest and support!

Oh, and Andy?

Here ya’ go.

    Thanks a ton!

    Hi Robin,

Just made a donation (finally)! It didn’t register “without-a-map” as an email address, but I did make the donation in Andy’s name. This really is so cool that you are supporting his journey and I’m glad I could help…even though I may not qualify for the contest! Maybe next time!!!
