Home is Best

I got a voicemail this morning saying that the evacuations in El Portal had been lifted. I was having such a good time bumming around Mount Tamalpais State Park and Golden Gate National Recreation Area that I was almost disappointed to head back home. Almost.

The fire did not damage any structures in El Portal. As it turned out, I was misinformed when I was told that my house was being evacuated. My neighborhood never went past the pre-evacuation stage, but I’m still glad I headed to the coast for a couple days.

I’m happy that everyone has homes to return, and we have a lot of fire fighters, national park, national forest, and sheriff’s office personnel to thank for that. I wish I could personally bake each of the 900+ people involved with the fire fighting cookies.

However, I’m so tired I can barely see straight, I have to leave for backpack training tomorrow, and I still have to finish packing the backpack.
