The Best Things in Life are Free but Not Necessarily Covered with Snow

Half Dome and Clouds Rest from Olmsted Point

The weather in Yosemite has been remarkably un-winter like this year. Normally a January trip to Olmsted point would involve several miles of back-country skiing. This winter a lack of snow has kept both the Tioga Pass and Glacier Point roads open. The rock climbers are ecstatic, although the skiers are watching their gear gather dust and pouting a little. While snow remains an elusive part of the weather forecast everyone is hurrying to get in a little more play time in the high country and placing bets on when the road will close for good.

Isn’t it lucky then that this weekend everyone can come and visit Olmsted Point for free? Entrance to the National Parks is free for the weekend of Martin Luther King Jr. day.

Other fee free days this year are:

April 21-29
 National Park Week

June 9
 Get Outdoors Day

September 29
 National Public Lands Day

November 10-12
Veterans Day weekend

So hurry up and visit before the pass closes!
