FTW Wednesday: Civil War Serenades

3 Jul

The 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg began June 28th and continues until July 7th.  I am excited to be attending the reenactment of Pickett’s Charge on Sunday.  I’ve never been to Gettysburg before (although I did watch the movie in preparation) and going for such a big event will be an interesting experience.  One of the ways I typically get myself excited about an event is to listen to themed music.  I’m a big fan of Christmas music in the weeks (not months) leading up to the day; I love eerie music around Halloween and I even have a soundtrack specifically for flying in airplanes.  So what does one listen to in preparation for a voyage into history?  I’ve chosen a few civil war themed songs that I’m sure will be on repeat during my road trip.

Scarlet Tide performed by Elvis Costello, Renee Fleming, Rufus Wainwright, and Kate McGarrigle

Fife and Gun from the movie Gettysburg

Yankee Bayonet by The Decemberists

Wayfaring Stranger sung by The Broken Circle Breakdown

Kinakeet Island by Carbon Leaf

Do you have any to add? There’s still time for me to expand my playlist before I get on the road…
