A more or less accurate account of the past evening’s events

24 Jan

I got home at 8:30 pm after a long cold day at work. I checked the usual things. Email. Blog. Facebook.

Suddenly I jumped up from my electronic stupor.

“Rebecca!” I yelled. “We have to go outside right now!”

“We have to look at the stars”

“This is too important!”

I charged down the hall to Jackie’s room.

Jackie was already in bed.

“Jackie” I said. “Come outside we have to look at the stars!”

What they said next is a great testimony to the saint-like tolerance of my roommates. Rebecca only said “Can I pee first?” and Jackie only hesitated long enough to put real pants on.

Then we went out to look at the stars.

This is the news that got me excited enough to drag my roommates from the warm house right before bedtime. According to Sky and Telescope it will continue to be visible and even grow brighter over the next couple of weeks. This is a really exciting opportunity, so do some searching to find a place that offers public telescope viewings or a star party. You don’t want to miss it!
